3D Printing × Cosplay: Bringing Fantasy Gear to Life with the X400
3D Printing × Cosplay: Bringing Fantasy Gear to Life with the X400
One of the most exciting parts of cosplay is not just the costume or makeup, but the helmets, armor, and oversized props that define the look of a character.
3D printing is making these complex props easier and more efficient to create.
Recently, we used the ERYONE THINKER X400 to print several large cosplay-style props, including a fantasy armor helmet, an oversized sword, and a fantasy battle axe. From digital models to finished physical pieces, these projects demonstrate the potential of large-format FDM 3D printing for cosplay, prop making, and creative model production.

Oversized Fantasy Sword: Bigger Parts, Fewer Seams

Large cosplay weapons often exceed the build volume of standard desktop 3D printers, which means the model may need to be divided into many smaller parts.
This fantasy sword was printed using the ERYONE X400, which offers a 400 × 400 × 400 mm build volume. The larger print area allows more sections to be printed as complete parts, helping reduce:
- The number of separate pieces
- Assembly seams
- Filling and sanding work
- Overall post-processing time
For extremely long props, a segmented printing + internal connection + final assembly workflow can still be used.
The finished result works well for cosplay display, exhibition setups, and creative photography.
Fantasy Armor Helmet: From Digital Model to Wearable Prop

Helmet projects are not only about appearance. They also need to take actual wearability into account.
Before printing, creators should consider:
- Head dimensions
- Internal clearance
- Field of view
- Weight
- Comfort
The larger build volume of the X400 allows some helmet models to be printed in larger, more complete sections, reducing unnecessary cuts and seams.
For cosplay creators, this means easier assembly and better consistency across the overall shape.
Before starting a full print, it can also be useful to print a small sizing test to confirm the fit.
Fantasy Battle Axe: Modular Printing for Large Props

Large props such as battle axes, staffs, and polearms are well suited to modular 3D printing.
A large battle axe can typically be divided into:
Axe head + handle + internal connection structure
Each part can be printed separately, then assembled, filled, sanded, and finished.
The fantasy battle axe shown here was also printed on the ERYONE X400.
For projects like this, the benefit of a larger build volume is straightforward:
Fewer parts, fewer seams, and better overall structural continuity.
Which Materials Work Well for Cosplay Props?
Different parts can be printed with different materials depending on their purpose.
PLA
A practical choice for helmets, armor shells, weapon bodies, and most display-oriented models. It is easy to print and provides good surface detail.
Silk PLA
Offers a glossy, metallic-like appearance and works especially well for decorative armor details, emblems, trims, and visually focused components.
PETG
Provides greater toughness and can be useful for areas that may experience more handling or occasional impact.
TPU
Suitable for flexible connectors, bendable decorative parts, and certain movable sections.
For more complex cosplay projects, multiple materials can also be combined within a single build.
Printing Is Only Half the Process
A complete cosplay prop usually goes through several stages:
Model adjustment → Slicing → 3D printing → Assembly → Filling → Sanding → Painting → Test fitting
3D printing creates the complex base structure, while post-processing determines the final visual quality.
With proper sanding, painting, and surface finishing, large 3D-printed parts can achieve a much more polished and prop-like appearance.
Explore Large-Format Creative Printing with the X400
From fantasy armor helmets to oversized swords and battle axes, these projects demonstrate how the ERYONE THINKER X400 can be used for large cosplay props and creative model making.
For creators working on bigger projects, the 400 × 400 × 400 mm build volume helps reduce unnecessary model splitting and makes it easier to print larger sections as complete parts.
3D printing is about more than making a model.
It allows ideas from the digital world to become physical creations that can be held, worn, photographed, and displayed.
From digital model to real-world creation — print your imagination with ERYONE X400.
